At age three, Tafelina Lowell Lera Duval was disowned by her birth parents, but was that actually a blessing in disguise? Raised in a remote region of Ozeria by the kind earl of Peylon, she was allowed to hunt in a forest full of monsters, invent magic tools based on memories of her previous life, and let her extraordinary magical talents flourish. But that all begins to change with the approach of her thirteenth birthday. As the child of a noble, she’s obligated to attend an academy meant to raise and educate the next generation of nobles. That means moving to the royal capital, a sprawling city quite unlike her beloved home. Lera soon feels like a fish out of water, and things only get worse with kidnappings, the appearance of her half sister, and more. But Lera’s not one to be disheartened easily and that isn’t about to change!

Her first year at the academy finally over, Lera returns home for the summer. Unfortunately for her, she’s barely been there an hour before she receives a marriage proposal. And it doesn’t end there, as Lera then learns Lord Peylon has plans for her that she wasn’t even aware of! It turns out that her suitor isn’t the only one interested in her future... Nonetheless, Lera is home and that means going into the Mystic Forest, seeing old friends, and attending the annual hunting festival. But when some jewelry goes missing, unwanted visitors rear their overdressed heads, and knights from the royal capital start tromping around the forest for mysterious reasons, Lera finds her summer a little less relaxing than she had hoped.

With summer break over, Lera returns to the royal capital to begin a new year at the noble academy. Hoping that this year won’t have any of the chaos of the previous, those hopes are quickly dashed when an older student starts bothering her. It’s not long before this incident drags her into a greater dispute she really wants no part of. If that’s not bad enough, she gets a surprise visit from her father, Ribbons is being her usual self, and Bear keeps foisting work onto her. On the brighter side, Lera finally has a mount that isn’t afraid of her! Sure, it’s a man-eating bear, but that shouldn’t be an issue. Not for Lera, anyway.
