What can you do on this website?

You can read free previews of all our series, buy or rent digital light novels and manga, see the latest announcements, check our release schedule, and find links to third-party retailers where you can purchase our ebooks and print volumes. If you create a free J-Novel Club account, you can post on our forums as well.

You also have the option to become a J-Novel Club subscriber! Our Library Pass subscription gives access a catalog with hundreds of volumes across dozens of series, while our Priority Pass lets you read the latest parts of all of our ongoing series as soon as they're translated, before the volume is even finished. Our third plan, the Dual Pass, gives you everything above plus a site-wide discount!

Are there print versions of your books?

Yes! Many of our popular series are available in print from your favorite physical book distributors!

We generally choose to print series that have strong digital sales, so you can help increase the chance of your favorite series getting a physical release by spreading the word and buying ebooks for friends and family!

What do I get with a J-Novel Club subscription?

It depends; we have a bunch of different subscription options to choose from!

The Library Pass subscription costs $3.50 a month, or $40 a year with an annual plan. It lets you access the JNC Library, which offers dozens of complete series and the first 3 volumes of many ongoing series—hundreds of volumes in total!

The Priority Pass subscription costs $4.95 a month, or $54 a year with an annual plan. Subscribers can read the latest pre-publication (Prepub) parts for all of our ongoing series as soon as they're translated!

The Dual Pass subscription gives you the benefits of both plans—plus a 5% discount on purchases—for $7.95 a month, or $90 a year with an annual plan.

Priority Pass and Dual Pass subscribers can also up their benefits with our MAX add-on, which gives you 799 Coins every month to spend as you wish, plus a discount of up to 15% on everything site-wide! Our MAX option adds an additional $7/month to your plan.

How do I cancel my membership?

Easy! Just log in, go to the subscription tab on your account page then click Cancel Membership. Your plan status should change to "Active (Set to cancel)".

Your subscription will stay active until the end of the billing cycle. If you change your mind, you can also un-cancel at any time before then.

What are J-Novel Coins? How do I get them?

Everyone can buy Coins with a free account! Just go to Buy Coins from your account profile.

MAX subscribers automatically receive 799 Coins on the 15th of every month. Some subscription plans also get a discount when buying Coins; 5% off for Dual Pass subscribers, 10% off for Priority Pass MAX subscribers, and 15% off for Dual Pass MAX subscribers.

Coins can be redeemed for individual volumes, or you can spend them to rent light novel parts and manga chapters. Purchased ebooks can be downloaded from your user library or read right on our website. Renting gives you access to that part or chapter for 72 hours, and if you decide you like a rented volume enough to own it, know that Coins used on the rental will count toward the cost of the full ebook!

Do J-Novel Coins expire?

Nope! Your Coins will never expire, and you may accumulate as many as you want.

Can I move from one subscription plan to another?

Yes! If you go to the subscription page, you'll see a list of plans you can switch to. After changing plans, your account will receive credit for the balance on your current subscription; that credit will then be applied to the next payment on your new plan.

What is a "Premium" ebook?

The term "Premium ebook" refers to all ebooks purchased from our website.

While our ebooks don't cost any more than what you'd pay elsewhere, they do come with cool perks like bonus content, higher-resolution images, and DRM-free EPUB3 file formats. These benefits are not available anywhere else and can only be obtained by purchasing an ebook directly from the J-Novel Club website using Coins.

While not every volume offers bonus content, many of them do, including special illustrations, translator notes, and additional short stories.

Will the ebooks in my library always be available?

Any ebooks you've purchased on our site can be downloaded from your user library as often as you'd like, and the files are yours to do with as you wish. However, if J-Novel Club loses the rights to a title or our licensing contract expires, we may not be able to provide the download service any longer.

However, any downloaded copies of your ebooks will always be yours!

What is a Prepub release?

Think of them as simulcasts for light novels and manga! (Due to this similarity, we also sometimes refer to Prepub releases as "streaming.")

For each series currently being translated, we release one part of the volume each week for Priority Pass and Dual Pass subscribers to read on our website or through our app. These parts will generally be about 30-40 pages but can vary from week to week. Each part consists of a roughly equal portion of the final amount of text; most of our titles are released in 8-10 parts, one per week, though longer books naturally take more time to translate and are released over more weeks.

Please keep in mind that these are prepublication releases and have not been fully edited and proofread at the level we use for official releases of full volumes. (Although we'd like to think they're still pretty good!)

Additionally, Prepub versions of light novels typically only include the black-and-white illustrations found in the text. The final ebooks for both light novels and manga will include all other illustrations, such as the color illustrations usually found at the beginning of the book, character introductions, maps, and other miscellaneous graphics.

How long are prepub parts available?

As implied, Prepub releases are only available until the ebook is published in full—typically about a month after the final Prepub part has been released.

Our team uses that month for final proofreading and typesetting for the ebook ahead of wider publication. After Prepub access has expired, you can still read those parts if you own the full volume, or you can rent parts individually!

Volume X is marked "Expired" now! What gives?

Once a volume has been published as a complete ebook, Prepub access ends; we mark that change by saying that the title has "expired."

At that point, its parts can only be read by renting parts or purchasing the volume in its entirety. Please support the author by purchasing the official ebook!

When does the Prepub for the next volume in a series start?

After one volume's final part comes out, there is usually at least 2 weeks before the next volume's first part will be posted.

If a series is caught up with the Japanese releases, whenever a new volume is released, that volume needs to be licensed separately. Licensing can vary wildly in how long it takes, so we don't have any hard estimates on when the the next volume will be ready to start streaming, sorry!

Because of the nature of posting parts as they are translated, future volumes are not put on the schedule in advance since there isn't much time between when we know a volume is ready for streaming and when it will actually start. They will usually be added to the schedule a few days before or on the day of release. Please rest assured - when part 1 and the English cover are ready to go live, the new volume will be added to the schedule.

Thanks for catching that!

Posting in the forums is the best way to point out errors in Prepub parts, at which point our team will correct them ASAP. (One of the benefits of doing these Prepub releases is that we can really polish the translations before final publication.)

However, if you spot an error in a fully published ebook, we'd prefer that you reach out to us at support@j-novel.club instead.

Why do I need to tell you what country I'm in if there are no regional restrictions on your ebooks?

All that setting does is change where third-party retail links send you. Feel free to set it to whatever country you usually purchase from, and change it if you need to.

Which types of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club, including debit cards with one of these brands. You can also pay via Google Pay and Apple Pay!

At this time, we do not accept any other type of payment such as PayPal or Bitcoin, sorry!

Please note that Stripe, our payment provider, does not support all countries, so you may not be able to purchase a subscription or coins from us if you are in one of those countries.

I don't see an option for Google Pay or Apple Pay, how do I access it?

Google Pay: If you are on a desktop or laptop computer, you must be using the Google Chrome browser and be logged into your Google account through the browser itself. If you are on an Android device, you must be logged into your Google account through your device's settings. Google Pay must also be enabled on your Google account.

Apple Pay: If you are on a Mac desktop or laptop computer, you must be logged into your Apple account through System Preferences. If you are on an iOS device, you must be logged into your Apple account on your device. Apple Pay must also be enabled on your Apple account.

If you are correctly logged into your account via one of the above options and using the correct web browser (Google Chrome for Android, Safari for Mac/iOS) the option to use Google Pay or Apple Pay should automatically appear as an alternative option to credit card when you attempt to add a payment type. Note that you will not see the option to use Google or Apple Pay if you are not using the correct web browser (including ones which haven't been mentioned yet such as Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge).

Please note that Google Pay and Apple Pay are not available in all countries; if they are not available in your country, then you may not see the option.

How do I change my payment method?

In your account page, go to the membership page.

You will see an option to change your payment method (EDIT) there. Only one payment method may be saved on file at a time.

You can also remove your stored payment method on this page if you wish.

Why do you charge sales tax?

Due to a 2018 United States Supreme Court decision (South Dakota v. Wayfair), states are allowed to collect sales tax on businesses even if they do not have a physical presence in that state. Please look up your local sales tax laws if you have further questions.
