The Magic in this Other World is Too Far Behind! (Manga)

Suimei and two of his best friends find themselves mysteriously summoned to another world. There’s a cute princess, magic galore, a Demon Lord that needs to be defeated, and a world that needs to be saved—the works! Too bad Suimei isn’t interested. His friends are all too ready to play the parts of heroes, but Suimei just wants to get home. It’s hard being a modern magician in another world! While his best friend Reiji sets off on a quest to subjugate the Demon Lord, Suimei is fighting off palace intrigue and departing on a journey of his own—one he hopes will help him find a way back home. First stop? The local branch of the adventurer’s guild where new challenges and allies await. But when he’s put to the test, can he rise to the occasion without blowing his cover?

Suimei takes his first job with the guild, escorting a trade caravan to the Nelferian Empire. He’s in for a pleasant surprise when he finds out Lefille’s taken the same job, but sunny skies quickly turn ominous as the perfect storm of chaos and intrigue looms on the horizon. It turns out Suimei and Lefille will hit danger, darkness, blood, and betrayal—all before they even reach the Empire. Meanwhile, Reiji and his group hit their own patch of rough weather.

Suimei and Lefille continue on their journey together towards the Empire, but stumbling across a grievously wounded survivor from a second attack on the trade corps sends Lefille running in the other direction. Suimei chases after her, but knows what lies in store. As it turns out, their encounter with the demon army isn’t over—in fact, it’s only just getting started. Can Lefille confront her dark past and take down Rajas? Or will fighting her own demons prove to be too much?

The brutal fight with Rajas comes to a close with unforeseen consequences for Lefille. Suimei does his best to get her to the Empire in her... compromised... state, but they have little idea of the intrigue that awaits them across the border. Meanwhile, Felmenia manages to catch up with Reiji’s party as they stumble across the aftermath of a certain slaughter. Caught between demons, Duke Hadorious, and a Nelferian princess, it’s unclear who their most dangerous enemy is at this point.

Suimei and Lefille settle down in Filas Philia in hopes of actually getting some research done at the imperial library, but little do they know of the dark secrets haunting the capital’s streets. A series of strange incidents has all of Filas Philia on guard, and Suimei may unwittingly be sticking his nose right in the thick of it. The more immediate threat, however, comes in the form of a boy named Elliot... who is threatening to take Lefille away by divine order of the Goddess!

Suimei’s now saddled with two time-sensitive jobs: finding the culprit behind the mysterious incidents in the capital, and finding a way to heal his arm. When he finally unmasks the shadow stalking the city streets, however, he comes to realize that resolving both cases is going to mean facing the darkness firsthand... But how does one confront malice incarnate? Will Suimei be able to save both himself and Liliana? Moreover, what is he going to do now that the imperial princess is inserting herself into the investigation?

Suimei is now hot on the trail of the real evil lurking in the shadows of the imperial capital. Before he can get back to business, however, he has to prove his worth to Princess Graziella, AKA the infamously powerful Geo Malifex. He’ll be hard pressed to win against her in his current compromised condition, but fortunately for Suimei, he’s got more than just magicka on his side. When the dust settles, will he still be able to save Liliana... from her past, her darkness, and even her own father?

Suimei’s ongoing—and increasingly dangerous—showdown with Princess Graziella manages to catch the attention of some unexpected reinforcements. When help arrives, he can finally break away from the fight and confront the real mastermind behind the coma incidents. Can Suimei clear Liliana’s name and settle things once and for all? His friends will have to hold off the raging imperial princess in order to buy him time... but can they do it on their own?

Suimei and company’s showdown with the imperial princess comes to an unexpectedly... diplomatic... conclusion, marking the end to the mysterious coma incidents in the capital. After the dramatic events that transpired in the imperial capital, Suimei continues the next leg of his journey in the Saadias Alliance, where he hopes to find a clue to help him get back to his world. Meanwhile, the alliance’s summoned hero is back from the frontline for a victory parade, where Suimei discovers her shocking identity and is forced to make new plans.

Upon finding his childhood friend Kuchiba Hatsumi in the other world, Suimei sneaks into the Miazen palace to meet her. But Hatsumi has lost her memory, and a clandestine rendezvous breaks down into an unwanted battle against the hero’s entire party. Alone and surrounded inside a hostile stronghold, the modern magician must wield his might in order to make it out alive!
